I’m a journalist with a passion for mentoring early-career journalists, audience engagement and digital storytelling.

Born and raised outside Baltimore, I am a faculty member at the Philip Merrill College of Journalism in College Park, Md., where I oversee the Capital News Service audience engagement bureau. At CNS, I work with students to expand the reach of and engagement with CNS journalism. We produce platform-specific stories, manage our social accounts, produce newsletters, maintain cnsmaryland.org, analyze metrics to make data-driven decisions, and keep up with digital trends. At Merrill, I also teach a required course on design and coding.

I was previously the Deputy Managing Editor, Digital at Education Week in Bethesda, Md.  It was at EdWeek where I honed my expertise in digital news strategy. I focused on storytelling approaches, audience engagement strategies, news products, workflows, and more to advance our editorial and business goals. I worked on a years-long effort to redesign, replatform, and relaunch edweek.org. I contributed to decisions about coverage. I also managed a team of digital news specialists.

I currently reside in Rockville, Md., with my family and cat.

When I’m not writing headlines, I’m musing about the future of journalism.
